Commenced his life in the industry pulling logs out of the bush using horses and bullocks. He then used a Fordson tractor with steel wheels, and a modified Blitz.
He created splitting machines and tandem Log Jinkers. He was the first Contractor to use a Skidder in Southern Tasmania, a Skidder in the Derwent Valley, a Ford truck and Grapple skidder in Tasmania, a tree shear and Feller Buncher in Tasmania, a Feller Buncher in cable logging in Tasmania, Processing Heads, and a modified Debarker
